We include the same services and features in both our package for students and recent graduates and our professionals package. We offer our student package at a lower price because we know that students and recent graduates need a break.
We’re also prepared to write documents geared toward internships and research positions as well as regular jobs.
What is a master resume?
A master resume lists your entire professional and academic history and all of your skills. Trust us–you have more relevant experiences and skills than you think you do. It’s very long. Everything in a master resume is bulleted, concise, and phrased in the right way to be used on a resume. Your master resume includes many more items than you could fit onto a single resume.
Some may be duplicates–for example, one that phrases an experience in a way that’s optimized for an administrative position, and one for the same experience that’s optimized for an operational position.
You can pull from your master resume to create new resumes in the future. You won’t have to rewrite your experiences and skills; all you’ll have to do is curate the items for that specific position or organization. Our resume-writing course teaches you that skill, and shows you how to add future experiences and skills to your master resume like a pro.
Why do you offer master resumes?
Our clients go through a thorough (and very necessary) onboarding questionnaire. Since you have to answer so many questions, we feel that you deserve to have all of that information in a format that you can use in the future without having to re-purchase a resume service. Many professional resume writers will write something like a master resume when they’re working on your resume anyway; we believe you should have access to it.
We also give you two completed, tailored resumes and cover letters (four for the Ultra package), but we always include a walkthrough of how and why we wrote those resumes the way that we did, and guidance on how to adapt your master resume for new resumes in the future. We think this is the best of both worlds. You get a couple of ready-to-use resumes to get started, but you’re set for the future as well.
Can I gift a resume package to someone else?
Absolutely! Our packages make especially great graduation gifts for students.
(For parents of students) Can I fill out my child's onboarding questions?
You certainly can. We understand that it can be hard to get young people psyched about things like writing resumes and career planning.
It’s crucial, however, that you make sure you’ve included all of your child’s experiences. We want to make sure that none of your child’s potentially relevant or valuable experiences are left out of the resume-writing process.
We always prefer that your child be directly involved in the process, since it helps build confidence and prepares them for interviews.
How many resumes, cover letters, and revisions do I get?
Our service goes beyond typical resume and cover letter offerings. All of our clients receive their own personal master resume, in addition to 2 tailored, ready-to-submit resumes and cover letters for distinct positions or programs (Ultra package clients receive 4 tailored resumes and cover letters).
You’ll receive a personalized tutorial on how to write resumes and cover letters in the future, and a detailed walk-through of how we developed your tailored resumes and how you can adapt your master resume for various roles and employers in the future.
We hope that our detailed walkthrough and writing course equip you to confidently make any desired adjustments. However, we’re always here to answer any specific or challenging questions you may have.
Why shouldn't I just use AI to write my resume?
The short answer: your resume will suck.
Right now, tools like ChatGPT and other Al tools can be very helpful for some tasks. In our experience, they’re most helpful for generic writing tasks where quality isn’t paramount, and some coding tasks. Quality is paramount when it comes to your resume.
When you prompt an Al tool to write a resume, it mimicks the style, phrasing, and structure of resumes that were publicly available for the tool’s training. The tool was almost certainly not trained using cream-of-the-crop, high quality resumes (which are difficult to acquire in large enough quantities for training), so it’s copying random, low quality resumes (mostly from job boards).
Even if an Al tool was trained on the best resumes around, it would probably fail to produce a high quality resume that’s adequately tailored, and would still have a strong tendency towards word-fluff and filler. Writing the perfect resume requires thoughtful strategizing and the ability to find and express an individual’s value for a certain position or organization without a bunch of filler. This is not something we’ve seen any Al tool do. At their worst, Al tools generate laughably bad, error-filled resumes.
We are not anti-Al. We recommend using Al tools to automate time- consuming, mindless and/or repetitive tasks to save time and boost productivity. Resumes are not something Al has been able to master thus far.
Our writing guide includes helpful tips for using Al tools to come up with inspiration for individual phrases for your resume if you get stuck, but we strongly advise against prompting an Al tool to write an entire resume or submitting Al-produced content in professional settings without serious, thoughtful editing.
Are your resumes ATS-optimized?
Of course! It’s critical for your resume to make it through any initial screening software. We include the keywords that employers are screening for and, just as importantly, avoid design elements and formatting mistakes that can trip up your resume in the screening process.
It’s impossible to guess which employers use applicant tracking and screening software and which don’t. Ultimately, a successful resume always lands in human hands. Often, it’s an HR staffer tasked with drastically narrowing down a stack of candidates.
Our resumes are expertly written to not only pass HR scrutiny but to capture the attention of department managers and senior staff involved in hiring decisions, ensuring your application stands out at every level of review.
Do you offer job guarantees?
The only person who can guarantee you a job is you. While we’ll do everything we can to make you an exceptional candidate, effective job hunting requires your dedication to proactively and appropriately engage with potential employers. It also requires you to believe that you’re the strongest applicant, which is easier said than done.
Our services are, in some ways, a confidence-boosting exercise to help you do just that. We’ll find value in your experiences and coursework that you didn’t know was there, and help you articulate it to potential employers.
